GRANULATED CORK

The granulated cork is obtained through milling and grinding operations: shavings and other wastes.

This product is completely natural and does not involve any risks for the environment, it can be used in a wide range of applications, according with its specifications, and it is the base for all the agglomerated cork industry.

We pawn in the rigorous selection and quality control of the raw material, in order to obtain granulated cork of high quality.

In its natural state, can be used as an incubator substance for certain types of packages, like the ones that are used in the fruits and fragile articles; it can also be used in the building construction and automobile industry, due to its excellent properties of acoustic, as well as thermo and anti-vibration insulation.



 

AGGLOMERATED CORKS

 

We are also producers of agglomerated corks, obtained by agglutinating granulated cork (after a thermo-mechanical treatment) with food binders and additives, using the method of extrusion, with calibres between 31x17 mm and 50x30 mm.

SOIGA's corks can be commercialised without treatment or, optionally, with the following:

Peroxide washing (H2O2)

Surface coat with CAF

Surface coat with Silicone

Surface coat with Paraffin

The corks can also be marked (fire branding), according with the clients' request. Each order is followed by a Quality Certificate.

The corks may not have any kind of finishing or, may have the following options:

  • Chamfered
  • Polish on the tops
  • Coloured

To support our diversification policy we produce 1+1 corks (natural cork disks that are glued on the tops of the body). We can also supply tapered corks with diversified sizes for the most different usages.

 General recommendation

1. To choose the size of the stopper, it is very import to pay attention to following items:

        The type of wine;

        Model of the bottle;

        Conservation time of the wine;

        Others.

2. The cork stoppers  must be stored  in dry spaces. In spaces free of odours and must be keep faraway from spaces where wood dealt with chlorinated products exist. Shall note be stored also, nearby the susceptible products to cause microbiological and chemical contamination.

3. Must respect corrects bottling norms, namely, to respect the maximum pressing of the maxillas which can not exceed 5 times less then the diameter of the stoppers.

4. Bags must be shed into the corking machine directly, for hygienic reasons. The compression of the corking machine does not to be made to values superior than 33% of the diameter of the stopper and should be 1,5 to 2 mm less than the inside diameter of the bottle neck.

5. A space between the agglomerated cork stopper and the wine of minimum 15 mm (bottles of 75 cl). For the sparkling wines, this value must be respected.

6. Waiting about 30 minutes before lying down the bottle.

7. The remainder stoppers kept in the corking machine must be replaced in a closed bag but they must be used with brevity.

8. The transport of wine should be done in up right position.

 

AGGLOMERATED CORK COVERINGS

Developing a cork flooring system of high quality is, since 1995, one of  SOIGA's major purposes. To benefit from the well-known cork performances, such as durability, impact resistance, shock absorbing and sound isolating, SOIGA developed a wide range of products.

The agglomerated obtained through granulated cork is compressed with special binders, making the SOICORK material a natural and ecologically acceptable product.

In order to cover a wide range of applications, SOICORK material is divided in 3 types of densities:

For the finishing surface we must point out the following:

SOICORK material obeys to the Portuguese standards and all the orders leave SOIGA with a quality certificate issued by our laboratory.

The parquet and the cork decoratives can have the following dimensions (mm):

The cork veneers are made with two agglomerated cork sheets: one base and one decorative sheet. The bases are produced using the same method as the parquet, but are not commercialised in the same way, the purpose is binding them with decorative sheets, in order to make the cork veneers. The cork veneers can be produced with different dimensions, according to the clients' request (it happens the same with the parquet and with the cork decoratives).

 

The soft material produced can have the maximum dimensions of 945x635 mm and in any thickness . The soft can be used as "underlay", it has many applications for the shoes industry (ex: insoles), for the production of several objects (ex.: fishing rod, skis, cricket balls, ...).

 

The cork floating is used as floor covering and its main advantage is the easy application and ideal renovation. This kind of flooring isn't glued or nailed to the floor; its union is guaranteed by a 'tongue and groove' system, developed by our company.

 

SOIGA's floating can have the following dimensions (mm):

900 x 300 x 10.8

 This material has 3 layers:

Top layer: 'Standard' parquet or decorative or cork veneer

Middle layer: HDF

Inferior layer: Soft (underlayment)

 

The HDF used has low emission levels of formaldehyde and has a high resistance to flexion; it can bear heavy weights and repetitive impacts.

 

 

 

The skirting boards made by SOIGA can have several dimensions, according to our clients' specifications. However, the most usual dimensions are (mm):

900 x 70 x 5

900 x 70 x 8

 

The cork wall tiles can be cut in tiles or sheets with 3mm (or similar thickness). Usually the agglomerated cork veneered is glued in an agglomerated cork backing with higher density.
